How a QR code birthday card works

You make it and print it. They only need their phone camera.

  • Make the card

Write your birthday wishes and add photos, a video or a voice note, with birthday music they can turn off.

  • Download its QR code

Once the card is unlocked, save its QR code as a PNG or an SVG, ready to print.

  • Put it with the gift

A gift tag, a cake card, the lid of a box: a QR code message that travels with the present.

  • They scan, it opens

Their camera opens the card. Set it to open on their birthday and, until then, the code shows a countdown.

Questions

Does it play the happy birthday song?
It plays cheerful birthday music, not the song itself, when they tap to open the card. To sing it yourself, add a voice note.
Do they need an app to scan it?
No. The phone's camera reads the code and the card opens in the browser, with no account.
Can the QR code go on a card I post?
Yes. A handwritten card we write and post can carry a QR code that opens your photos, video and voice note.
Is it free?
Making and previewing a card is free, and only you can see it. You pay once per card when you unlock it to send.
