A teacher thank you card needs three things: the teacher's name, one thing they did that you noticed, and what it changed for you or your child. Two or three sentences is enough. Sign it with your own name, in your own hand.
What should you write in a thank you card for the teacher?
Name one moment, then say what it did. "Mrs. Rao, thank you for staying after class to explain fractions. Maths is no longer scary for me." Skip "thank you for everything." A teacher reads dozens of cards a year, and the specific line is the one they remember.

| Writer | Note |
|---|---|
| Young child | Dear Mr. Khan, thank you for reading us the dragon book. I liked the voices. From Asha. |
| Teen | Ms. Lopez, your feedback on my essay changed how I write. Thank you for not letting me settle. |
| Parent | Dear Mrs. Rao, Ravi now walks in smiling. Thank you for noticing he was quiet in September. |
| Whole class | Dear Mr. Das, thank you for a year of bad jokes and good lessons. From all of 5B. (Each child signs.) |

Do teachers prefer a note to a gift?
Often, yes. A 2019 survey of more than 500 teachers by Envision found strong interest in gift cards, and cards, letters and notes were praised as costing little. Honolulu Magazine polled educators in 2023 and graded handwritten notes A+, but cash D. Neither gives percentages, so read these as direction, not proof. An informal ISTE+ASCD query found the same: a simple thank you.
Can you give a teacher a gift too?
Check the school's policy first. Many schools and states cap gifts. Boulder Valley schools in Colorado say staff "shall not accept unduly expensive or elaborate gifts," set the limit at $75, and call letters of gratitude "the most appropriate staff gift." Arlington, Virginia proposed $50 a year from any one giver in 2013. A card is safe almost everywhere. If you add a gift, keep it small.
When should you send it?
Send it in the last two weeks of term, in Teacher Appreciation Week, or the week after a favour. A late card still lands.
How do you send a card to a teacher who has moved or retired?
Ask the school office to forward it, or use the teacher's home address if they gave it to you. We can write and post it for you. A real pen, held by a machine, writes your message in black ink on a flat 6x4 inch card, in an addressed envelope. It is written in Bangalore and handed to the post within 3 business days of your order. After that, delivery usually takes:
| Country | Usual delivery |
|---|---|
| India | 3 to 7 days |
| UAE, Singapore | 6 to 12 days |
| UK, Germany | 7 to 14 days |
| US, Canada, Australia | 8 to 15 days |
